Located on Île Saint-Bernard, in Châteauguay, this wildlife preserve, rich in wetlands, is a paradise for many wildlife species.
Importance of wetlands
We often tend to dry them out for construction purposes. However, wetlands play a number of very important roles in nature.
The world’s ponds, marshes, swamps and peatbogs prevent flooding, thanks to their great capacity for absorption, and prevent soil erosion.
They are natural filters that ensure better water quality, in addition to providing a home for wide variety of plants and animals.
The painted turtle is easy to recognize. Its dark, smooth shell has a red stripe around the extremity, and its head and neck have yellow and red stripes.
Like many reptiles, its eggs hatch into males if the temperature of the nest is warm, but into females if it is warmer!
In visiting the Marguerite-D'Youville wildlife reserve, you’ll discover real treasures... And when you find them through a digital rally, it’s even more fun!
To partake in this adventure, simply download the preserve’s rally app on a cellphone or tablet and open your eyes and ears as you hit the trails.
