Shediac port

Shediac port

This port in southeastern New Brunswick is bustling with lobster fishing and related activities.

  • Lobster fishing

    Lobster traps.

New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island are very good regions for fishing this delicious shellfish.

After placing their traps in their favourite sites when the season opens, lobster fishermen remove them every day before dawn to harvest their catches.

The lobsters are attracted into the traps using bait (pieces of fish) and cannot get out.

  • Adopt a baby lobster

    Person holding a baby lobster.

In the early stages of lobster development, the mortality rate is very high.

To tackle this problem and maintain the resource sustainably, Homarus Eco-Centre has set up a mini-hatchery. Here, lobsters are raised from eggs to Stage IV larvae, before being released into the sea.

By participating in the adopt-a-lobster program, the public can contribute to this initiative
