Located in mid-River, at the mouth of the Saguenay Fjord, this lighthouse has been dubbed “The Top”.
Whales and their babies
The bond between young toothed whales and their mother is very strong. In belugas, it can last until the young calf reaches sexual maturity. This is a crucial learning period.
The calf grows quickly thanks to its mother’s rich milk. A newborn blue whale gains 80 kg a day, leaving his mother, once weaned, seven months later and 17 tons heavier!
Saguenay–St. Lawrence Marine Park
Life in this protected marine environment is extraordinary. From microscopic algae to the gigantic blue whale, more than 1600 species have been observed here.
Created by the Canadian and Québec governments, the Saguenay–St. Lawrence Marine Park protects the area’s waters and seabed. It also promotes scientific research, education and responsible whale-watching.
